Cottonseed Handling and Storage at Gins

William Mayfield

ABSTRACT

The growing market for whole cottonseed for cattle feed is creating interest in gin storage. Clear span, metal frame buildings with concrete floors work well for normal gin storage volumes. An aeration system capable of furnishing 10 cu ft/min per ton of seed should be included. By selecting dry seed for storage and carefully monitoring the temperatures after storage, cottonseed can be efficiently stored for extended periods.
