The Effects of Disruption on Cotton Insect Spatial Patterns

Jerry H. Young, Linda J. Willson, and J. Alan Stark

ABSTRACT

The bases for computer simulation models of cotton insect infield movement using exponentially distributed time intervals with zero-range interaction at Bose-Einstein speeds are presented. These models demonstrate that insects move toward a geometric distribution regardless of the original distribution. Field data from insecticide-disrupted populations of cotton fleahoppers are given which show that they return to a geometric distribution after disruption. Some of the problems of insect frequency distributions are discussed.
