ABSTRACT

Two bacteria, designated smooth white (SW) and rough white (RW), were isolated from leaves and squares of field grown Tamcat CAMD-E cotton. A third isolate (number 304), was isolated from hypocoty 1s of Tamcot CAMD-E. It has been established that MAR cottons have higher populations of bacteria (Bacilluss pp.) with smooth white (SW) and rough white (RW) colonies than non-MAR cottons. Earlier research indicated that the SW and RW bacterial isolates, applied as treatments, influenced the response of cotton by simulating resistance to seedling pathogens, bacterial blight, Phymatotrichum root rot, and boll weevil.
