Fiber Fineness and Maturity Evaluation

John Pellow, H.B. Cooper, John Palmer, and David Anderson

ABSTRACT

Percent maturity was measured by the FMT III and the Arealometer. Fiber fineness was measured by the FMT III, Arealometer and the AFIS L&D. These instruments were not consistent in ranking the cottons in the same order within each location (N=4). However, when data from three locations were combined (N=12) the rankings of the varieties were very similar. Some differences in statistical significance among varieties were found from the different instruments. The FMT showed the greatest number of significant differences between cottons.
