2007 was the first year in Texas history that agriculture contributed over 100 billion dollars to the state’s economy.

2007 was the first year in Texas history that agriculture contributed over 100 billion dollars to the state’s economy.  Todd Staples, Texas Commissioner of Agriculture says that is over nine and a half percent of the gross state product.

Staples says they are anxious to see what the plantings will be in 2009.

Suggested introduction cut 3:
According to Staples the Texas Department of Agriculture is working with the Boll Weevil Foundation in requesting some additional resources from the Texas Legislature.
