America’s farmers will receive up to $1.5 billion in 2008 advance direct payments. According to Robbie Minnich, Senior Government Relations Representative for the National Cotton Council, last week the Secretary of Agriculture announced the USDA will begin issuing the advance direct payments that were authorized in the recently enacted farm bill.

Minnich says that producers may elect to receive a 22 percent advance payment when they enroll in the Direct and Counter-cyclical payment Program.
