USDA has completed its first survey based estimate of the 2006 cotton crop. According to Dr. Gary Adams, Vice-President of Economics and Policy Analysis for the National Cotton Council, USDA has estimated the 2006 cotton crop at 20.4 million bales which is 3.5 million bales less than the 2005 crop.

While most of the cotton belt is suffering from drought, Adams says there are still some areas doing reasonably well.
