Senators Grassley and Dorgan tried to push an amendment through the Senate to change current payment limitations on farm programs.

Suggested introduction cut 1:

Senators Grassley and Dorgan tried to push an amendment through the Senate to change current payment limitations on farm programs. According to Robbie Minnich, Senior government Relations Representative for the National Cotton Council, this amendment would have been detrimental to the cotton industry.

Suggested introduction cut 2:

The National Cotton Council and virtually every commodity and farm organization had urged rejection of the Grassley-Dorgan amendment.  Minnich says the amendment was defeated by the Senate on a procedural vote.

Suggested introduction cut 3:

Minnich says the proponents of the amendment were determined to drive a wedge between different segments of agriculture.
