Vice President for Economics and Policy Analysis Dr. Gary Adams reviews the NCC’s Early Season Planting Intentions Survey.

Adams says the higher cotton prices of recent weeks are reflected in growers’ intentions to increase acreage by more than 9 percent over last year.

Even with the higher prices, Adams says, there is increased competition from other crops.

The Southwest and Mid-South regions show the largest planting increases, while peanuts and soybeans are strong competitors for cotton acreage in the Southeast.
