What's the difference between PDF and HTML?

PDF

Articles that have been professionally formatted and converted to Portable Document File (PDF) format. These files maintain the original document formatting and are intended to be used for high quality printouts. They are slower to load than the HTML version and require Adobe Acrobat Reader to view them.

HTML

Articles that have been formatted using Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML). The HTML version is intended for quick, on line viewing. Formatting may not be perfect due to HTML limitations and the editors’ decision to have the text on each HTML page match the text on the corresponding PDF page.

Why can't I access the PDF?

A copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader is not installed on your system. The latest version can be downloaded free of charge from Adobe’s Website - (http://www.adobe.com).

Note: Acrobat 3.01 viewers may not produce sharp output to a PCL printer, particularly when printing high resolution graphics. Acrobat 3.0 viewers, on the other hand, can usually produce sharp output of high resolution images to a PCL printer. The problem has been presented to Adobe's Engineering Department and has reportedly been resolved in release 3.01 RA. Solutions:

A.

Print from an Acrobat 3.01 RA viewer. You can download the Acrobat Reader 3.01 update from Adobe's Website - http://www.adobe.com or their FTP site (ftp://ftp.adobe.com).

B.

Print to a PostScript printer.

Why are some graphics unclear when viewing the PDF?

Graphics supplied by some authors are high resolution images and all details may not view correctly when zoom is set to full page. Fine image details can be seen using Acrobat Reader’s zoom tool which looks like a hand magnifying glass with a + sign on it. Graphics should print correctly.
