DEPENDENCE OF MOISTURE REGAIN AND SORPTION OF REACTIVE DYES ON BULK MATURITY OF COTTON

Warren S. Perkins, R.M. Broughton, and Ida E. Reed

ABSTRACT

The studies reported herein were done with the objective of developing a quick dyeing method to detect dyeability differences related to cotton maturity. The dyeing method used a very reactive type of reactive dye and included heating the saturated material to quickly fix the reactive dye. The tendency of reactive dyes to fix on cotton correlated well with causticaire maturity. Bulk maturity also greatly affected wettability, wet pickup, and moisture regain of cotton bale samples.
