IMPROVEMENTS IN ROTOR YARN QUALITY WHEN USING COMBED COTTON SLIVERS

T. Rowe

ABSTRACT

With increasing quality demands and the trend towards the production of finer rotor yarns the selection of raw material becomes extremely important. A higher grade raw material can be purchased but an alternative means of achieving higher quality using combed cotton is available. Combed cotton has been used for many years to produce higher quality ring spun yams.

This paper outlines the background to the use of combed cotton in rotor spinning pioneered by the Rieter Company and describes the development of rotor yams for a specific but very critical end-use,-namely warp knitting. The work forms part of an industrially sponsored research programme recently completed at Bolton Institute, UK
