WHAT TEXTILE PROCESSORS NEED TO KNOW ABOUT COTTON PRODUCTION

William D. Mayfield

ABSTRACT

Cotton Producers are well educated, highly qualified businessmen and businesswomen. They are heavily invested in machinery and land so they are committed to cotton. Producers have invested about $500 million into research and promotion since 1968. Producers will respond to economic incentives. The High Volume Instrument (HVI) grading system is helping communicate the real quality needs of textile processors to producers. Communication and cooperation between processors and producer/ginners can greatly improve the competitiveness and profitability of the entire cotton textile industry.
