SOIL PH AND POTASSIUM NUTRITION OF COTTON

J.C. Davis-Carter, G.J. Gascho, and S.C. Hodges

ABSTRACT

Soil pH and K levels may be manipulated to optimize cotton nutrition and yield. Data from 2 locations for 2 years showed that liming significantly increased yield, but K rate did not. Liming had no effect on petiole K concentration but did result in increased Mg concentrations. Excessive K application reduced petiole Mg levels and induced Mg deficiency Symptoms. Lime and K applications both influence Mg nutrition, and these inputs must be managed together to avoid nutrient deficiencies.
