ABSTRACT

Cotton (Gossypium) species show distinct growth habits and strategies for biomass and fruit production. In this study, we examined the impact of leaf shape and canopy architecture on the photon flux density (PFD) within a canopy, and carbon assimilation of G. hirsutum and G. barbadense. The leaf structure and nonheliotropic behavior of the leaves increased the potential light interception in G. barbadense and suggested that the photosynthetic production may exceed that of G. hirsutum.
