Early Season Production Management Practices: Sand (Wind) Damage

James R. Supak

ABSTRACT

Wind and especially wind in combination with blowing sand damages or destroys thousands of acres of seedling cotton annually. Although frequently associated only with the dryland cotton production regions of the Southern Great Plains, it is now recognized that wind and blowing sand cause some economic damage to young cotton stands in virtually every production region in the U.S. Cotton Belt.
