ABSTRACT
[(14)C]-Arachidonic acid labeled rat peritoneal macrophage were stimulated for 2 hrs with zymosan A, A23187, or a lipopolysaccharide (LPS) from Enterobacter agglomerans, a bacteria associated with cotton dust and implicated in the pathogenesis of byssinosis. The cyclooxygenase metabolites were separated by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and quantitated in a liquid scintillation counter (LSC). The major cyclooxygenase metabolites produced in order of decreasing concentration by E. agglomerans LPS stimulated macrophage were 6-detoprostaglandin F(1 ) (6-keto-PGF(1 )), thromboxane B(2) (TXB(2)), prostaglandin D(2) (PGD), Prostaglandin E(2) (PGE(2)), prostaglandin F(2 ) (PGF(2 )), and prostaglandin A(2) (PGA(2)).
