Comparison of Card and MTM Determinations of Respirable Dust Percentage Weights

Preston E. Sasser, Frederick M. Shofner, and Gordon F. Williams

ABSTRACT

The respirable dust in cotton lint measured on an MTM-PCAM system was compared with the amount of respirable dust generated when the cotton was carded. The carding dust was measured on a Continuous Aerosol Monitor (CAM) system. The two methods agreed very well in these tests with an R-square correlation value of 0.96. The MTM-PCAM system predicted a dust content approximately twice the level as found by the carding method.
