ABSTRACT

A comparison of statistical results associated with various cotton growth regulator and harvest aid treatments was made with yield and net returns as the decision (dependent) variable. Several chemical treatments were applied on Stoneville 825 cotton in the Brazos valley of Texas, near College Station, TX. ANOVA and LSD were utilized to analyze differences in mean yield and mean net returns for randomized complete block experimental design. Returns above variable costs include charges for all additional inputs and the treatment costs. Differences in lint price based on fiber quality characteristics for various treatments were also incorporated. Results indicate that, while yield may be a satisfactory decision criteria, experiments analyzed with net returns as the dependent variable show that the inclusion of quality, price, and cost data can provide added information which may change the results from traditional yield analyses.
