Johnsongrass Control with New Herbicides

A.F. Wiese. E.W. Chenault, and M.L. Wood

ABSTRACT

Johnsongrass control with various postemergence herbicides have been evaluated annually since 1980. In some instances, herbicides were sprayed on soybeans or sugarbeets infested with johnsongrass, and in other cases were applied on fallow soil. With one exception, the herbicides were sprayed in 26 gpa, carrier with 1 quart per acre of crop oil adjuvant. In that study, herbicides were applied through a controlled droplet applicator (CDA) at 1.2 gpa of cotton oil as the carrier. In each experiment, height of johnsongrass and vigor of the plants was recorded at treatment. Visual vigor ratings used were poor, fair, good and excellent. Plots were usually 10 by 25 feet, and treatments were replicated three times.
