Early Season Insecticide Timing Study

K.J. Ratchford

ABSTRACT

Selected insecticides were tested in N.E. Louisiana during 1984 and 1985 for effects on the pest/predator complex associated with the early weeks of square production. Insecticides included in the study were Cygon 4EC, Penncap M 2EC, Bolstar 6EC and Pydrin 2.4EC. Weekly applications were initiated either at pinhead square stage or were delayed from 1 to 3 weeks after pinhead square stage. Tarnished plant bugs, Lygus lineolaris (Palisot de Beauvois) cotton fleahoppers, Pseudatomosscelis seriatus (Ruter) and, seemed beneficial arthropod populations were monitored throughout the application period. Early season applications were discontinued when plots had to be oversprayed and maintained for bollworm and boll weevil control. Yield differences were not significant, however, increases were observed with applications of Cygon, Penncap M and, Bolstar which were initiated 2 and 3 weeks after pinhead square.
