Removal and Collection of Microdust and Respirable Dust from Cotton Fibers

F.M. Shofner and G.F. Williams

ABSTRACT

Aeromechanical methods have been developed to separate and aerodynamically classify foreign matter in cotton, including respirable dust, and form the basis of the Microdust aid Trash Monitor. Coupled with electro-optical methods to monitor the outputs, these methods can be used to determine the dust potential of cotton, to provide gram quantities of dust for analysis, and to provide a controlled system for real-time animal or human exposure experiments.
