ABSTRACT
Plant-insect interactions were studied on 11 high terpenoid breeding lines and 3 standard cotton varieties at College Station and Corpus Christi, TX. Neonatal bollworm, Heliothis zea (Boddie), larvae were confined for 7 days in the field, using whole-plant cages. Based on bollworm growth/survival and plant damage parameters HTT-133-134 and several other high terpenoid cottons were identified as the most resistant to bollworm of the 14 tested. Location had a significant effect on almost all parameters. Correlations were found between most bollworm growth/survival, plant damage parameters, and leaf gossypol.
