ABSTRACT
A backcrossing scheme is apparently succeeding in transferring resistance to pink bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella (Saunders), from the resistant "AET-5" into improved nectariless breeding stocks of cotton, Gossypium hirsutum L. In 1982 and 1983, 14 backcross progenies were selected because they had no more seed damage than AET-5. Eight of those 14 yielded significantly more lint than AET-5 and compared favorably in lint yield and other agronomic properties to their nectariless recurrent parents.
