Ginning to Minimize Bark and Grass Reductions

Roy V. Baker

ABSTRACT

Official grade standards for U.S. cotton do not contain discernable quantities of bark or grass. Consequently, this type of foreign material is considered to be 'extraneous matter' by the classer, and a lint sample containing appreciable amounts of bark or grass is reduced one or more grades to reflect this special condition (14). The same rule also applies to spindle twists, sand, dust, oil, parts of seeds, motes, stems etc.
