Nutsedge Control in Cotton with Scepter

R.S. Baker

ABSTRACT

Imazaquin (Scepter, AC 252214) applied as a postemergence directed spray at 0.5 lb/A in mid-June, 1983 resulted in 90% purple nutsedge control but cotton injury was severe. The 0.12 lb/A rate resulted in only 30 to 40% control of nutsedge, but seed cotton yield was 50% higher than where MSMA was applied three times. Further research in 1984 at rates ranging from 0.03 to 0.12 lb/A showed either a lack of nutsedge control or excessive cotton injury. Results showed insufficient cotton tolerance to permit the use of imazaquin for selective purple nutsedge control in cotton.
