New Cyclone Design for Cotton Gin Emissions Containing Lint Fiber

Shay L. Simpson, Dr. Calvin B. Parnell, Jr.

ABSTRACT

The implementation of the Federal Clean Air Act Amendments will force cotton gins to reduce particulate matter emissions. The first-stage lint cleaner is the emitting point of a gin with the highest emission rate of fine dust. Kasper et al. (1993) designed a new 1D-2D low pressure cyclone which could be retrofitted onto the axial-flow fan exhaust from the first-stage lint cleaner. Performance data of this cyclone and research results of a "bleed" system at the cyclone's dust outlet are reported.
