ABSTRACT

Eleven major varieties of California cotton (approved and grown in the San Joaquin Valley over a 50-year period) were planted, harvested, ginned, and processed to study variety-related trends in fiber quality factors and textile quality factors. Results indicate yarn quality has increased significantly because of increases in fiber quality; however, shifting textile quality concerns indicate that further emphasis should be made on improving cotton quality characteristics that contribute to defects in textile products.
