ABSTRACT

Cotton Incorporated's EFS® Cotton Fiber Management System is a family of programs designed to assist mills and merchants in using High Volume Instrument (HVI) data to improve their cotton acquisition and management dramatically. With the introduction of GINNet, a relatively new member of the EFS® System family, cotton ginners and growers, too, can acquire, evaluate and share their cotton test data to improve quality and maximize profits.

GINNet is a unique computer program that allows cotton growers and ginners to acquire United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) HVI data electronically. GINNet enables users to analyze cotton test data and compare it with other variables such as seed variety, producers, farms, and fields. GINNet features easy-to-understand graphic and statistical displays.

This paper emphasizes the importance of HVI data within the textile industry and more specifically, the importance of HVI data to the ginning and farming communities. In addition, we will examine how GINNet can help growers become more knowledgeable about the cotton they grow and therefore gain a critical edge in the marketplace.
