Offstation Assessment of Staple (DPX-PE350) in Louisiana

Paul Bergeron, Dearl Sanders

ABSTRACT

Four locations were selected for offstation evaluation of Staple herbicide in Louisiana in 1993. Location 1 at Bosco, LA was a comparison of Staple with BXN/Buctril treatments. Location 2 at Natchitoches, LA was a comparison of Staple with MSMA on arsenical resistant cocklebur. Location 3 and 4 at Alexandria and Smithfield respectively were comparisons of single and split applications of Staple for morningglory control. All tests used the randomized complete block design with 3 replications.

At Location 1, Staple provided excellent control of pitted morningglory and smooth pigweed, but poor control of horse purslane. At Location 2, Staple gave good to excellent control of cocklebur that was resistant to MSMA applications. At Location 3, Staple provided excellent control of pitted morningglory when used either as a single (.06 lb a.i.) treatment or as a split (.03 lb a.i. fb .03 lb. a.i.). At Location 4, results were similar to Location 3 with the addition of excellent control of groundcherry. Only at Location 4 was the standard treatment (Cotoran plus MSMA overtop) comparable to either the single or split application of Staple.
