HVI Strength Correction for Measured Moisture Content: Testing

Richard Byler, W. Stanley Anthony, Paul B. Beaton, H.H. Ramey, Jerome Boyd

ABSTRACT

Measurements by the high volume instrument of strength and measurements of moisture by a resistance device were made on 676 cotton lint samples to evaluate the strength sustainability as a result of correction for moisture. Previously obtained equations were applied to the data to correct strength for moisture content. The correction equation improved the reproducibility of the strength measurements from 80% for the uncorrected data to 90% for the data corrected for moisture content changes.
