Overview of NIR Use in Correcting HVI Strength Measurements

Ron Williams and Eric Setzer

ABSTRACT

Near Infrared Spectroscopy has been used to correct HVI strength measurements for fluctuations caused by moisture variation in cotton fibers. Background on the measurement of water content in cotton fibers using NIR is presented along with some typical results. Three sampling schemes are discussed including the measurement of spectra directly from combed beards.
