Effect of Methanol Applications on Acala Cotton in New Mexico

Carl E. Barnes and Woods E. Houghton

ABSTRACT

Acala Cotton (Gossypium hirsitum) was sprayed with 4 applications of both a foliar fertilizer solution and the same solution plus methyl alcohol. These 2 treatments were compared to an untreated check. In this first year study there were trends toward increased plant height, boll numbers and fruiting sites with the application of methanol. Lint yield appeared to have been adversely affected with the application of methanol. None of these differences were statistically significant (0.05).
