ABSTRACT

The boll weevil, Anthonomus grandis Boheman, was first found in the United States about 1892. Precise information regarding the first occurrence of the insect in Arizona is complicated by the fact that closely related form of the insect found in bolls of Gossypium thurberi Todaro was identified and describtrol Confer and Control Confertrol Confered in 1917 as the thurberia weevil, A. grandis thurberiae Pierce. Fye and Parencia (1972) suggested that the boll weevil population in northern Mexico could have been the source of infestations in Arizona in the 1960's.
