Comparison of Picking and Stripping on the Texas High Plains and Their Effects on Cotton Dust, Fiber and Yarn Qualities

A.D. Brashears, R.V. Baker, and P.E. Sasser

ABSTRACT

A comparison of hand and machine harvesting methods at four harvest dates was conducted on the Texas High Plains. Similar studies have been conducted in cotton growing areas where picking is the primary harvest method. This study will provide data to develop a more comprehensive harvest model and to determine the amount of foreign material that can be tolerated in developing improved harvesting subsystems.
