ABSTRACT
Field studies were made on side-by-side production tests of 30-inch narrow row and conventional 40-inch row cotton from six locations in the lower Rio Grande Valley. Cultural practices, pest management and production economics were evaluated. Tests showed that a modified John Deere 9910 cotton picker could effectively harvest the 30-inch cotton fields. Average lint yields per acre were increased 12 percent with the 30-inch cotton production system. Even with increased production costs of 30-inch cotton, economic analysis indicated that 30-inch cotton can be profitable for cotton farmers.
