Comparing Characteristics of Dusts Associated with Cotton Gins and Cottonseed Oil Mills

Calvin B. Parnell, Jr., and Phil Hickman

ABSTRACT

A procedure has been developed through which the dust content of lint fiber or dust-laden filters from various sources can be measured. This "MCPSD" proce dure has been used to evaluate dust levels of cotton samples of various genotypes of cotton samples processed through various stages of lint cleanings, and of filters used in sampling cotton gins, oil mills, and warehouses. This paper details the results of these evaluations and describes the ongoing cotton dust research being conducted at Texas A&M University in cooperation with The Cotton Foundation.
