Characterizing Cotton Maturity by Image Analysis

Bugno Xu and Behnam Pourdeyhimi

ABSTRACT

Cotton maturity refers to the extent of development of the secondary wall of a cotton fiber, and is an important characteristic in cotton fibers. For characterizing and quantifying cotton maturity, we have developed an imaging system based on our previous research work on fiber crosssectional shape analysis [201. The techniques for processing fiber cross section images are introduced and several new terms for describing cotton maturity and related characteristics are discussed.
