USDA Report on Module Averaging - 1992

Jerome Boyd

ABSTRACT

In response to a recommendation made by the Secretary of Agriculture's Advisory Committee on Cotton Marketing, module averaging was expanded to include length, length uniformity and micronaire in addition to fiber strength. Data for 64,915 modules and trailers were collected and analyzed as part of this project. Basic descriptive statistics were calculated for each fiber property and reproducibility data were collected from checklots representing 12,499 modules and trailers. Checklot data indicate that the laboratory-to-laboratory reproducibility of fiber property measurements is improved by assigning the module or trailer average fiber property measurement to each bale in the module or trailer.
