A Reference Method for HVI Strength

R.A. Taylor and Luther C. Godbey

ABSTRACT

A program is underway to develop a highly accurate cotton fiber strength measurement to control HVI strength measurements. The new method uses fundamental measurements of force and mass on fiber bundles tested at HVI speed. Reproducibility using a six-specimen test on ginned lint was 0.3 gf/tex. Typical strength values were slightly lower than Stelometer values for low strength cottons.
