ABSTRACT
This study is a reconsideration of the insect growth regulator Diflubenzuron, Dimilin®, as a control agent of the cotton boll weevil. Its early season use has become very limited. A mid or late season use was studied with application made in August and early September. Boll weevil trap data from the Southeastern Boll weevil Eradication Program was evaluated from cotton fields where growers used Dimilin versus no Dimilin in Georgia and Alabama. This was followed by replicated whole field tests first on one Alabama farm and followed on farms in Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. Findings were consistent. Dimilin has a real potential for both reproductive and diapause control of the boll weevil. A wide area study is recommended to prove this potential as an eradication tool and a grower used production practice.
