Control of Fall Armyworm in South Carolina Cotton Producer/Consultant Dilemma

ABSTRACT

Two on-farm field tests were conducted to observe insecticidal control of fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) on cotton. Tests were set up to observe insecticidal efficacy of various materials, and to evaluate the effectiveness of a rolling pressbar (rollbar) mounted to a John Deere 6000 Hi-cycle. Use of the rolling pressbar in application of insecticide treatments increased control over the "conventional" application method, although not significantly. Sequential applications made within seven days provided effective control of fall armyworm larvae in one test. Larvin appeared to be the most consistently effective material in controlling fall armyworm, although not significantly better than any other treatment.
