ABSTRACT

The cotton aphid Glover has in recent years become a prominent, key pest across the U.S. cotton belt primarily due to widespread insecticide resistance to organophosphate and other classes of registered aphicides. Management of the resistant populations has been difficult and techniques vary, including the use of different insecticide classes or mixtures. Furadan 4F is a registers insecticide/nematicide on cotton as an in-furrow treatment, but not as a foliar spray. Results from trials on tolerant cotton aphids across the U.S. have shown exceptional, consistent efficacy with Furadan 4F as a foliar treatment on resistant aphids at relatively low and very cost-effective rates.

Furadan 4F as a foliar treatment offers excellent potential as an important management tool for resistant cotton aphids in the U.S. cotton belt. Research is in progress for possible expansion of the Furadan 4F label to allow foliar application for cotton aphid management.
