An Overview of Biological Control of the Sweetpotato Whitefly, Bemisia tabaci

R.I. Carruthersi, S. Wraig, and W.A. Jones

ABSTRACT

Current biological control activities aimed at managing the sweetpotato whitefly are discussed summarizing activities from several state, federal and private institutions. Efforts are briefly outlined and investigators identified for a wide range of projects covering the use of parasitoids, predators and pathogens. The programs identified involve assessments of existing natural enemies, programs of conservation and augmentation, and foreign collection of exotic agents, their introduction and evaluation. In addition, bioassay data is presented on fungal pathogen research from the ARS Biological Pest control Research Unit in Weslaco.
