Using Plant Monitoring in Production Decisions: Insect Control

C. Mark Brown and Rick M. Smathers

ABSTRACT

Short-season cotton does not have time to compensate for excessive early square loss. Pre-bloom plant monitoring allows producers to monitor early square retention. Square retention is a crucial factor in both fleahopper management and in the overall management of short-season cotton. Pre-bloom square retention is one of the single-most important and controllable factors in managing yield.
