Optimum Plant Development for Quality

Kater Hake

ABSTRACT

Cotton plant development influences fiber quality primarily through the time of the effective bloom period (duration and initiation and the ability of leaves to retain and mature bolls. The U.S. Cotton industry is moving to an earlier and more compressed effective bloom period which has both beneficial and detrimental effects on quality. Management practices are discussed that promote high quality, without sacrificing earliness.
