Insecticide Resistance Management: Making it Work on the Farm

L.D. Hatfield

ABSTRACT

Pest susceptibility to available pesticides is an extremely valuable but limited resource. Various tactics are being developed to conserve susceptibility to current products. However, regardless what program is developed, any program will rely on monitoring data. Monitoring data is absolutely necessary to determine if pest susceptibility is remaining constant or changing. It is only through continual susceptibility monitoring that the effectiveness of a particular management program can be assessed. Currently, there are several test methods being utilized to monitor cotton pest susceptibility changes. These include the adult vial test (AVT), foliar tests, topical tests and, to a limited extent, biochemical and electrophysiological tests.
