ABSTRACT
Seed cotton from a Mid-South cotton variety was subjected to two concentrations of a pectic enzyme and three exposure times in an attempt to reduce the fiber-seed attachment force. A modified Shirley Developments Limited Cotton Attachment Tester (SDLCAT) was used to measure the fiber-seed attachment force and a Pressley Tester was used to measure fiber strength. The enzyme, Pectinol HS had a slight affect on the fiber-seed bond, however, it significantly reduced fiber strength. Additional studies are needed to find an enzyme that is more selective in attacking the seed coat while not affecting the fiber.
