Salient Physiological and Mathematical Features of an Expert System for Cotton Crop Management

H.E. Lemmon and C.N. Chuk

ABSTRACT

An expert system for the management of cotton crops has been developed. The expert system advises growers when to fertilize and by how much, when to irrigate and by how much, and when to harvest the crop. A principle component of this expert system is a computer simulation of the cotton plant, the soil in which it grows, the flow of nutrients and the integration of weather data.

The salient mathematical and physiological features of this expert system are discussed.
