ABSTRACT

GOAL 1.6E (common name Oxyfluarfen) provides effective preemergence and postemergence control of winter weeds in cotton fallowbeds in the Mid-South. GOAL herbicide is marketed by Rohn and Haas Company

Postemergence trials were established on fallowbeds to evaluate tank mixtures of GOAL with Roundup (common name Glyphosate), 2,4-D (common name 2,4-D), and Gramoxone Extra (common name Paraquat). Control of Carolina geranium (Geranium carolinianum), curly dock (Rumex crispus), cutleaf eveningprimrose (Oeonothera laciniata), henbit (Lamium amplexicaule) and Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum) was accelerated by the tank mixtures. In addition, excellent preemergence control of henbit (Lanium atnplexicaule) was achieved with GOAL.

Trials designed to evaluate crop safety indicated a potential for crop injury when GOAL treated soil was not incorporated prior to cotton planting. Soil incorporation eliminated the potential for crop injury from the herbicide treatments.
